How Gestalt Therapy works

Where cognitive therapies like CBT focus on creating change through understanding and shifting our thoughts, Gestalt Therapy focuses on unlocking change through understanding our current emotions and experiences through our body.

In sessions, we will work with what shows up in the room - in your body language, wording, experiences, and emotions. We may explore past experiences to understand how they are impacting you in your life right now.

There’s also a spiritual layer to Gestalt Therapy - which can help to deepen self awareness and restore wholeness by exploring the connection between the different parts of the self - the mind, body and spirit.

Gestalt can help us to work out where particular thoughts, emotions, perceptions or actions are restricting your personal growth and to focus on reconnecting you with mind, body and spirit so you can arrive at decisions from a place of self-awareness and self-connection.

As Gestalt Therapists, we hold the belief that people are inherently good and have the ability and desire to move their lives in a positive direction. We also believe that problems arise when we aren't being our true selves.

Gestalt is a useful therapy for a range of psychological and emotional experiences including:

Anxiety

Depression

Low self-esteem

Insomnia

Relationship challenges

Coping with stress

Managing difficult emotions

Trauma

Physical conditions with a psychological link, such as migraines.

Gestalt therapy can also be used alongside other therapies, like CBT.

After your first 3 sessions with Lotus Haven, you will have the option to access our signature 6-week program.

This program offers you a serene and holistic healing experience, where Reiki and Counselling sessions are alternated each visit.  

To make sure that this is the right fit for you, we only offer this package after 3 sessions together, and we will always be honest if we feel like it’s not the right fit. In this situation, we have wonderful practitioner connections who we can refer you to.

  • Not at all. Just get in touch or head to the booking form and we'll help you set up an appointment time with the best therapist for you. This ensures you are quickly booked in and we respond to you within 48 business hours. Private direct bookings also ensure the utmost confidentiality, as no GP’s or other referrers get involved or require reports or summary letters.

  • No, only psychologists and some social workers can provide Medicare rebates under Mental Health Care Plans (MHCPs).

    However, working with a private counsellor means your sessions are strictly confidential, no summary letters need to be sent to your GP and no mental health diagnoses are required or reported on your medical history which is involved in the MHCPs.

    Currently in Australia, couples counselling is not covered under MHCPs, so all couples counselling is privately accessed in Australia.

  • We hope to be able to provide private health insurance rebates in the near future.
